Fears & Phobias

A phobia is an anxiety disorder which involves irrational and persistent fear of a situation or an object. Fear and phobia are not the same. Many people feel fearful of, or are averse to dental treatments but this fear alone won’t stop them having the necessary treatments carried out. Fear becomes a phobia if an individual goes out of their way to avoid the triggering situation, or object or endures it with extreme distress, shows unreasonable and very intense fear, and this response lasts more than six months. It’s different from general anxiety disorders such as agoraphobia. At Synergīe Hypnotherapy we use a combination of relaxing hypnosis and a technique from NLP (neuro-linguistic programming). This process allows for the gradual desensitisation of fears and phobias, ultimately helping the client to reframe their perception of the trigger and cultivate a calmer response.
